175 participants and sunny skies

For the first time in the 2010 Short Course season Gauteng was blessed with perfect weather for the Zoo Lake event, hosted by Adventure Racing Club. And, to mark the occasion, we had a wonderful turnout with around 125 cards and 175 participants on the three courses; novice, women’s and men’s. Attendance was boosted by dozens of cubs and scouts as this official Gauteng Orienteering event incorporated the annual Baden Powel Orienteering event.

This event was also a landmark in the development of the Young Orienteering Challenge (YOC). There were 84 YOCs out on a course. What is so exciting to report is that it was only four years ago where the entire attendance at an event was around 80 people! A further 18 certificates were awarded to children for their three-event participation. So far this season, 31 children have earned their EMIT Buddy Badge.
