The SAOF is pleased to announce a Level 1 Teachers’ Training Course in Orienteering to be held at Fourways High School in Johannesburg on Saturday the 29th of January 2011. More details and directions are available on the information sheet.
The course has a number of aims:
- To provide teachers with the knowledge, skills & confidence in the basics of map reading & navigation.
- To empower teachers to be able to provide their learners with weekly training sessions to enable them to participate in schools league and/or other orienteering events.
- To provide LO and Geography teachers with practical examples of how they can bring map reading and orienteering alive.
- To show sports teachers the benefit of orienteering for learners participating in other team sports.
Come along if
- you are a teacher whose school is participating in the Gauteng Schools Orienteering League
- you are a teacher interested in introducing Orienteering to your school
- you are a teacher involved in Life Orientation (LO) , Geography or Sports at your school
- you are a parent or sports coach wanting to assist with orienteering training at a schools level
Equipping more people with the skills to coach orienteering is in line with the SAOF’s development goals in which we seek to introduce more schools to the sport of orienteering (follow this link for more). We wish to make orienteering an enjoyable experience for those taking part. And we know that increased enjoyment comes with increased skill levels.
The course will be presented by Tania Wimberley and Michele Botha, both highly experienced orienteers with coaching experience.
Course attendees will be receive an SAOF Level 1 Teachers’ Training Certificate.
