In June 2010 the “Safety at Sports and Recreational Events Act 2010” was gazetted. The act requires all event organisers to, “put in place such measures as may be prescribed to ensure the physical safety and security of persons and their property at an event”. As required by the Act the SAOF has, since October 2010, taken out a Public Liability Insurance policy, which covers “various orienteering and rogaine events”. It is important to note insurance is only provided for events that are (a) on the SAOF calendar and (b) have an Event Safety plan and Risk Assessment available at each event. It is each Club’s responsibility to ensure that this plan is available at all of the events that they host. Below are links to two documents that will aid in this process.
