SASCOC Membership Re-application

The SAOF administration team will be hard at work over the festive period compiling the necessary documentation for re-application to SASCOC for membership.  The required documentation is due by 18 January 2013.  Should any members of SAOF Member clubs have any queries about this process, please do not hesitate to contact the SAOF Management Committee.

Below you will find the preamble from SASCOC about this re-application process.

“The South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) has been inundated with queries relating to maladministration, financial mismanagement and the general lack of corporate governance observance procedures by federations from Local to National level. National Federation’s affiliates and /or associate members have lodged a number of complaints and disputes in relation to selection criteria, unconstitutional meetings being held, and leadership battles etc.

The above information indicates serious challenges within the National Federations and in sport in general. Governance and accountability has taken a back seat in the key functioning of these federations. Potential talented athletes, administrators, officials and leaders in society are losing interest in sport because of boardroom fights, rather than the development, promotion and professionalism in sport in the country.

This therefore necessitates the need, on an annual basis, for the reapplication of a review and audit of SASCOC’s recognition criteria for membership for the next cycle. National Sports organizations must ensure that structures will be put in place in all 9 geo-political provinces and compliance is attained through the set of principles as set out in the Recognition criteria. The National Sports Indaba’s resolution and outcomes in 2011 discussed the reviewing of the National Sport and Recreation Bodies in the country with a deadline being set for 31 December 2013.”
