All events must operate under the SAOF COVID 19 Guidelines and Participant code of conduct.

  1. Each club must provide COVID 19 compliance officers.
  2. As per the regulations, screening must be done for all participants on arrival, as well as contact details taken for contact tracing requirements.
  3. Each event shall require a risk assessment before the event. This should contain a section on COVID 19 mitigations in line with the guidelines above.

HAPPY ORIENTEERING!

SAOF

All SAOF events postponed due to COVID-19

For official information about the state of COVID-19 in South Africa please visit sacoronavirus.co.za

Hello fellow orienteers.

The SAOF would like to support statements and directives made by the President of the nation and SASCOC in doing our part to limit the spread of COVID-19. To that end, all SAOF sanctioned events are to be postponed until the Nations President or other national body indicates that it is safe to resume the gathering of 100 people or more.

We are sure you have seen a lot in the media relating to safety precautions and recommendations in combating the pandemic. We will not repeat them here, other than to say please take heed, and seek medical attention and treatment if you experience flu like symptoms.

Orienteering is still a sport that can be practiced outdoors without the gathering of groups of people. The SAOF encourages clubs to be innovative in planning activities that encourage people to get outside and exercise, both shown to be immune boosting activities, without requiring any individual contact.

We all look forward to competing again, in the meantime, keep running, and keep healthy.

Wishing you all the best

An update on the Northern Cape

Check out the great photos on our facebook page of Orienteering in action in the Northern Cape! Thanks to the efforts of Warnell Engelbrecht and Elvin Saal, the sport is growing in the region. The team has mapped a number of schools in the area, and is grade-by-grade introducing the sport to the learners. They also report that this is creating a noticeable skills improvement to the participants, which is fantastic!

Schools which have participated include Concordia Primary, Fonteintjie Farm and Steinkopf High.
