The first bush logs are now out. Sarah Wimberley is leading the Women’s log from her mother Tania and Margaret Archibald. Nicholas Mulder is way ahead on the Men’s log with four perfect scores. In this time of Covid-19, when many sporting and travel restrictions are in place, the SAOF has decided to relax aspects of the our selection policy.
Over the past year there has been a reduction in the number of orienteering events and our provincial and national championships were cancelled. For these reasons, selection was based more on the discretion of the selection committee.
Instead athletes were invited to be members of the various SAOF squads. Membership of the squads will grant them access to whatever limited training opportunities are possible during this year.
The squads remain open during the year and if an athlete shows good commitment and form they can be added to the relevant squad during the course of the year.

PenOC had a very successful event at Majik Forest last weekend. There were 86 entries and well over 100 participants!

Exciting news is that the Urban event on 2nd May is going to be on a brand new map at Southdowns College in Centurion. Quite flat and open, it should produce some fast racing.
Southdowns College provides a dynamic and progressive education for all pupils who respect individual needs, and embrace diversity and change in pursuit of academic, sporting and cultural excellence. The school imparts social and leadership skills and nurturing spiritual growth to create dynamic, independent leaders for a global society.
Orienteers lit up the golf course in search of the elusive controls last night. The usual suspects Sarah and Ryno won the women’s and men’s courses while Piper and Bailie de Klerk took first and second on the explorer course. Many of the competitors restocked their carbs with traditional oven fired pizzas courtesy of Kyalami Country Club.

Teenagers Sarah Wimberley and Ryno Grove won this mornings women’s and men’s races at The Campus in Bryanston. The Venter Family, Bernhard, Bernalee and Luan, took the win in the Explorer course.

Our next event is at Kyalami Golf Club next Friday 19th March. It is a brand new map so it is a level playing field for all! Everybody is welcome.
