SAOF signs national Code of Conduct

During the national Sports Indaba in November 2011 the National Sport and Recreation Plan was adopted. One outcome that has now been implemented was the development of a code of conduct to which all National Federations are signatories.  This SAOF has signed this code of conduct.

The purpose of this code of conduct is to articulate the acceptable standard of behavior expected of a member of a national sporting body.  It represents a formal statement of the values and ethical standards that guide individuals in sport.  It further outlines a set of principles and norms to which sporting people can be held accountable by National Federation when representing South Africa at any sporting event.

This therefore now forms part of the SAOF’s policies which can be viewed on the Policies section.

Management Team for JWOC 2016

The SAOF wishes to invite interested parties to make application be part of the management/coaching staff accompanying the Junior team to JWOC in 2016.  As this is an unpaid position SAOF is not issuing a document stipulating responsibilities, qualifications and skills required. Instead, this is an open invitation to any interested parties. Ideally the team should be accompanied by both a manager (responsible for logical arrangements beforehand and at the event) and a qualified coach.  Applications should be addressed to the selection committee, selection_committee@orienteering.co.za . The application should stipulate what responsibilities the party wishes to assume , include a motivation as to why they believe they are suitably qualified to fulfil such a position, and should be submitted by no later than 27 February 2016.

Setting the SAOF 2020 Strategy

The SAOF invites all members to contribute to setting our Strategy for the next 5 years.  We would like all interested parties to join us to explore ways to move towards establishing Orienteering in South Africa as a vibrant, growing sport for all.  The session will be held at SASCOC House in Johannesburg on January 16, 2016.  Please download the event details here.StrategyLogo_wide-600x195More information about our current strategy can be found in our Expansion Plan.  Members are encouraged to read these pages and our more detailed Development Plan. Whilst much progress has been made in implementing this plan, it is time to learn from what has worked and what has not worked.

Further information can be found in the SAOF’s Annual Reports over the past few years.  In particular it is clear that despite our efforts, club membership and participation levels have remained largely static.  It is time to adapt our approach. It is time to find new ways to work together to achieve our vision of Growth, Development Excellence.
