At our final Orienteering Schools League event, 161 pupils enjoyed running through or around a mix of open grassland, dense bush and forest at a well looked after City Park in the Northgate area.
A beautiful summer’s day Orienteering in lush green parkland. A total of 197 pupils took part in our 4th league event. Our event centre was set up at the tables and benches under beautiful shady trees situated outside the Delta Park Environmental Centre. (more…)
This week saw OSL pupils facing not only longer more technical courses but also the challenge of an A3 map. Those who have not yet understood the need for folding your map and thumbing quickly learnt how. It is always useful to fold your map to a more manageable size remembering to keep your thumb on the control you were last at. (more…)
206 orienteers from 14 different schools competed in the blazing hot sun on Monday 9 February 2015. Thankfully the shady trees and view of the river in the beautiful Heronbridge College grounds offered some respite from the heat. (more…)

A new Orienteering Schools League (OSL), coordinated by the South African Orienteering Federation (SAOF), is planned for the Kensington – Bedfordview – Edenvale area and neighbouring suburbs for the first term of 2015.
Orienteering is a walking and running sport of map-based navigation; it’s somewhat like treasure hunting where the map indicates the location of the ‘treasure’.
Local schools are invited to participate in the League (or even a few of the four events).
Schools are also invited to host events if their school property is a reasonable size; this will involve an SAOF orienteer coming to the school to make an orienteering-specific map of the property. This map is made available to the school for their own orienteering activities.

OSL – EAST is coordinated by Lisa de Speville. She has 15 years of orienteering and adventure racing experience, both as a participant, navigator and coach. She is a qualified British Orienteering Federation Level 2 Coach.
